Okay, so here's the pitch: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen meets Time Cop meets Quantum Leap. Man, Passages is really hard to describe. One of the central conceits of the game is that the great literary works of our time (meaning the Victorian-era, natch) are not works of fiction at all. Rather, they are the accounts of others who have entered the Book Without End and returned to tell the tale. An infinite array of alternate dimensions, the Book Without End is home to the Mad Hatter, Long John Silver, and Mowgli to name a few. The players are Passengers, dedicated to preserving the balance of the Book Without End and protecting our world from any rifts that might occur from time to time.
The book will use an entirely new system of mechanics, based loosely on d20 but stripped down to its essence, streamlined to maximize role-playing opportunities, and simplified to make a one-shot a viable alternative to board game night. Character creation won't take hours; NPC's can be generated on the fly; combat will be cinematic and fast-paced. In the words of the Great Bard: "The play's the thing!"
The book is written by Richard Farrese, Philippe Daigneault, and Justin D. Jacobson and is illustrated by Jennifer Rodgers and Annelisa Ochoa. |
