In November of 1936, the Nationalists attempted to storm Madrid but failed. From December of 1936 through February of 1937 the Nationalists attempted to encircle and isolate Madrid but failed again. After the battle on the Jarama River, the Nationalists were exhausted and beaten and it seemed the Republican forces had managed to save Madrid...
And then a new force made its appearance - the recently arrived Italian CTV. A fresh and very mobile force, the Italians were ready to launch a final offensive to take Madrid and put an end to the Spanish Civil War.
